What is the EA Sports UFC 2 release date?
EA Sports UFC 2 launches in North America on 15 March and in the UK and Europe on 17 March on Xbox One and PS4.
However, Xbox One players who subscribe to EA Access will get to play from 10 March with a full game trial. The trial gives you a generous 10 hours of gameplay, and if you decide to buy it, all progress will carry over.
How many fighters are in the game?
UFC 2 boasts a much bigger roster than its predecessor. With the addition of female MMA fighters, legends and the special guest characters, the game now hosts more than 250 playable athletes in total.
Are there new modes in UFC 2?
Yes. EA Sports has said that, following the criticism of the lack of depth of the first game, the team has worked hard to expand the amount of things for the player to do. With that, the sequel boasts more modes and expanded depth to those already in place.
One of the big new additions is Knockout Mode. In KO Mode, there is no grappling, and no ground game. Fighters simply stand and trade punches and kicks until someone is knocked out.
Other new modes include: Custom Event Creator, Online Championships Live Events, Skill Challenges and more.
Create-a-Fighter and Career Mode have also been expanded to allow for much more depth and authenticity.
How has the gameplay changed in UFC 2?
EA has focused on a brand-new physics system that delivers more realistic and visceral knockouts. Fighters will fall based on how the knockout blow was delivered, so a kick to the head could send your opponent tumbling across the cage, while an uppercut could see them collapse in a heap in front of you.
Grappling, considered a weak point of the first game, has also been improved to stop players desperately repeating intricate right-trigger inputs in the hope that something will happen. Much simpler inputs will now lead to transitions or submissions, and your fighter’s stats compared to those of your opponent plays a bigger impact on who is successful.
Players will also have greater control over defensive manoeuvres, being able to bob and weave and move your head much more effectively to dodge strikes.
Are there any pre-order bonuses?
Yes. Players who pre-order the game will receive day one access to three fighters: MMA legends Bas Rutten and Kazushi Sakuraba, as well as former world heavyweight boxing champion “Iron” Mike Tyson.
TrustedReviews spoke to UFC 2 creative director Brian Hayes about the mixed reaction following the announcement of Tyson’s inclusion in the game.
