Don’t look now, but the Cleveland Cavaliers have the third-best record in the Eastern Conference.
The Cavs have won seven consecutive games since starting out the season 5-7 and, perhaps more importantly, have seen significant defensive improvements during that span (while they’re still 29th in the NBA in overall defensive rating, they rank 10th during the streak).
The Boston Celtics‘ 16-game winning streak may have come to an end, but their reign atop our rankings rolls on for at least another week.
While Kyrie Irving and the Celtics remain on top, we’ve got our eyes on another Eastern Conference power: the suddenly red-hot Cleveland Cavaliers, winners of seven straight heading into Monday’s showdown with the Philadelphia 76ers. Hopefully Ben Simmons will be available for the first Simmons vs. LeBron matchup.
In the Western Conference, the Houston Rockets have leapfrogged the Golden State Warriors thanks to an undefeated week paired with the Warriors’ loss Wednesday night to the Oklahoma City Thunder. This is the first edition of my NBA Power Rankings.
