5 NBA Trades That Should Happen Before the NBA Trade Deadline : DeAndre Jordan * Marc Gasol * Nikola Mirotic
This is the time of the year in the NBA, where some teams are either looking to add a key piece for a title run or trade away veteran pieces to start or continue a painful rebuild. The NBA Trade deadline is approaching fast, and whether it lives up to the hype or not, there are always non stop rumors that get any fans of playoffs teams excited. Jan 15th just passed and the rest of the players that signed last summer are now eligible to be traded, so now teams have a better chance to make deals work with more players available. If the trade deadline is half of what free agency was last summer, then buckle up for some blockbuster deals. In this video I will discussed 5 trades, that I think should happen before the NBA Trade Deadline.
DeAndre Jordan has been one of the hottest names of the market for most of the season so far. It was almost a forgone conclusion before the season, that there were gonna be rumors because of his ability to become a free agent after the season. The Los Angeles Clippers have been snake bitten by injuries but Blake Griffin has made his way back in the lineups and the Clippers are playing some of the best basketball of the season. But question are the Clippers really willing to give DeAndre a max contract if necessary. A full max would be hard for any team to swallow. So in my first trade, I have the Clippers finally pulling the trigger on a deal sending DeAndre Jordan and forward Brice Johnson to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Tristan Thompson, Iman Shumpert and Brooklyn’s 1st Round Pick. Giving up that pick will be a hard decision, but I think the fact that Brooklyn is playing better than expected and the Cavaliers in desperate need of good defenders, makes the gamble worth it. Before the Pacers game, the Cavaliers have looked like team that wouldn’t be able to stop any NBA team in the league from scoring 120 points They have the second worst defensive rating in the league and also near the bottom in defensive rebounding. That’s the areas that Deandre’s is great at. For the Clippers, they could have two possible lottery picks that could help them make some moves in some form or fashion.
Jordan Clarkson has two years left on his contract after this season, and everybody knows right now that the Lakers are trying to clear cap space to be able to sign two all-star level players this summer. Nobody is gonna take Luol Deng’s contract, so trading Clarkson is the best option to clear more cap space. I have the Lakers trading Clarkson to the Orlando Magic for Mario Hezonja and Shelvin Mack. Obviously, the Lakers don’t wanna bring back players with contracts past the season, so this deal is perfect. Hezonja will be a free agent at season’s end and Shelvin Mack contract is unguaranteed next season. Magic get a player who can simply get buckets. They are ready to turn the page on their former 5th overall pick Mario Hezonja. He has looked like a player who has had a total lack of confidence in his game during his whole time in Orlando. Being in the right system with a stable and winning organization could do wonders. Not saying that the Lakers are that organization, but a change of scenery is just what Hezonja needs.
Every since the Nikola Mirotic and Bobby Portis altercation before the season, all signs have pointed to the Bulls moving Mirotic who has played the best basketball of his career this season. Any team that needs a floor spacer, needs to be calling the Bulls right now. Another reason to trade Mirotic, is the fact the Bulls would simple have a better chance at losing some games to get a better draft pick. Now Mirotic is one of many players that is playing lights out right now for the Bulls, but removing a deadeye shooter like nikola could give them a better chance to lose a couple of games here and there. In my third trade, I have the Bull trading Mirotic to the Detroit Pistons for Stanley Johnson, and Boban Marjanovic. After a terrific start to the season, the Detroit Pistons have regressed from a top 3 eastern Conference team to a team currently in the 8th spot. There playing without Reggie Jackson who is out due to a sprained ankle. Adding a deadeye shooter like Mirotic could help them get back to the level they were playing at. Stanley Johnson has been a big disappointment after a somewhat promising rookie year and Small forward is definitely a position of need for the Chicago Bulls
I never understood why George Hill signed with the Sacramento Kings if his expectations were to win. Most people thought it was just opportitunity to cash in a big contract and suffer losing for a while. Hill recently described his time with the Kings as Very frustating. The Kings are once again, by no one’s surprise are at the bottom of the NBA and they could be shopping a lot players at the deadline, I have the Kings trading George Hill, Jakarr Sampson to the Denver Nuggets for Kenneth Faried, Emmanuel Mudiay and Darrell Arthur. Jamal Murray is a terrific scorer, but he’s not known for his passing and defense. Thats something that George Hill can bring to the team. I’ve always though Jamal Murray best position is sixth man, and be a Jamal Crawford and Lou Williams type of player. Both of those players also aren’t known for their defense. Sacramento gets 3 players who have only one year on their contracts. Kenneth Faried is a high energy player who could spark a young team and Emmanuel Mudiay is a young player who haven’t lived up to the hype since getting drafted 7th in 2015. With De’Aaron Fox getting most of the minutes from here on out, Mudiay can get backup minutes and try to prove he can be a reliable lead guard in the NBA.
The Grizzlies keep saying that he’s not on the blocks, but experts and fans all feel that it time to let go. Marc Gasol is 32 and the Grizzlies have one of the worst record in the league. But they do have a lot of nice young talent on the team like Dillon Brooks, Deyonta Davis, Jarell Martin and Wayne Selden. Why had so more young talent with trading your franchise center? I have the Memphis Grizzlies trading Marc Gasol and James Ennis to the Milwaukee Bucks for Thon Maker, John Henson and Mirza Teletovic. After his surprisingly impactful rookie year, Thon Maker has looked like the project that many thought he was going into the draft, and that he was gonna to take some time to develop. But do the Buck want to wait for him to become a reliable impact player, with the long term potential for a team like the Celtics and LeBron James still in his prime. Or do they want to make a move for an all-star caliber player like Marc Gasol. Gasol numbers are down this year and he’s not the player he use to be, but playing on a contending team with a great player like Giannis, could rejuvenate Gasol’s play and the Bucks can be just as much of a threat in the east as anybody. You would have a lineup of the Greek Freak, Bledsoe, Middleton, Parker and Gasol with Snell and Brodgon coming off the bench, sounds like a championship contending squad.
